Investment Coins with dings
How much value would Canadian Maples or Buffalos lose if you'd find a small ding on them. I had a coin in a soft plastic sleeve that I dropped. There seems to be a small ding only noticeable if you hold it closely to your face.
Same question but with bullion bars. How damaged do investment coins have to be before they are considered scrap? |
Re: Investment Coins with dings
bars-- no effect
maples- negligible gold buffaloes-- might really lose numismatic value, but, it's also difficult to realize that value unless you get em certified and sell them yourself on ebay |

Might get dinged on resale depending on your dealer for maybe 5-15 bucks a coin at current prices.

Re: Investment Coins with dings
How about taking Credit and pamp Suisse out of the assay holders, will this lower the value a lot?I have an irresistible desire to fondle them naked, otherwise it`s like sex in a condom...

Re: Investment Coins with dings
The more the coins normally sell for above spot, the more the ding affects the price.

How much did coins used to trade over spot? In Canada for our maples it's about $30 CAD |
Re: Investment Coins with dings
For some reason, the premium commanded by Maples has dropped as gold spot has risen, I have no idea why. Currently, you can get Maples in less than quantities of 10 for spot +$18 US, $2 less for more than 10.

Dealers get less when they "wholesale" off "scruffy" Maples.
